Does stitching have an influence on roughness measurements?

What happens to my data during the stitching process, especially at the seams? What impact does this have on data analysis?

When there are multiple data points available for a single pixel in the stitching area, the height data of the all available sub-sets will be averaged. This will have an impact on the noise level in those areas, that is to say that more averaged scans increases the signal-to-noise ratio. This means that the roughness measurements will likely yield lower values on stitching seams compared to areas away from the seams.
